Because It Really Is A New Year

At the beginning of each new year, I try to find some time to quietly stop and assess the past year.  "Assess" sounds kind of clinical, but I really want to dedicate some time to looking back and thinking about the year that has just ended.  It also gives me the chance to think about and see what God did and thank Him for the many blessings during the year.  After "walking" through the days of the last year, comes the second part of my new year's custom: looking forward to the new year ahead.  The past few years God has impressed upon me a "theme" for the year.  This year I believe my theme is "To know Christ."  I still need to pray about it some more, but right now, that seems to fit.

Mark Buchanan is a favorite author of mine, and I loved his blog post for the new year.  (Of course, it doesn't hurt that he includes a Calvin and Hobbs cartoon at the beginning...)

You can read it here:  Making All Things New by Mark Buchanan.
It gave me a new perspective on 'resolution making' and it may inspire you, too.

May your 2012 be blessed!
